The teachings of The Institute in Basic Life Principles destroyed my relationship with God, contributed to the destruction of my marriage, and damaged my ability to relate to others. The home education program, which is called the Advanced Training Institute, is riddled with errors and is, in my opinion, inadequate to prepare a young person for life in the world outside IBLP’s rarefied confines. The much-vaunted “apprenticeship program” was sorely lacking in meaningful job training. While there were some excellent opportunities for specific skill sets, overall, the “apprentices” did a lot of menial labour for the organization. The end result of my two years as an “apprentice” was that IBLP got an astounding amount of cheap labour, and I got an entry on my resumé that always leads to awkward questions in the job interview.
